How to choose a magnesium oil
Magnesium oils look alike, but the labels differ in ways worth checking before you buy.
The magnesium source
Magnesium oil is magnesium chloride dissolved in water. Labels usually say where the magnesium chloride comes from. Ancient Minerals magnesium oils use magnesium chloride from the Zechstein seabed in northern Europe.
Concentration
Products differ in how much magnesium chloride is in the solution. A stronger solution can feel more intense on the skin, and some people dilute it with water. Check the concentration on the label and follow its directions.
Added ingredients
Some formulas add other ingredients. Ancient Minerals' Ultra version adds OptiMSM, a branded form of MSM. Balms and lotions add oils and butters so they rub in more like a cream. The full ingredient list is on each label.
